As much as a private person, I am on the web. Being home sick for several days makes a girl do a little thinking.
In August, I went to visit Mom. My Mom, My Aunt and Uncle and myself looked at old photos of my Family. Pictures of my Dad, My Mom, Grandparents, Cousins and of course those B&W photos of God knows who? We all laughed, cried and drank some wine together. Reminiscing, the good old days.
Most of all it gave me a sense of being, belonging and pride. My Family had so many obstacles to face while living abroad. For some strange reason, my trip to see Mom this year gave me more understanding about Families and why things happen within them. Sad but true, Families aren't always perfect. We try and in our hearts tell everyone they are. I think this is what makes families a whole. Brings them together even on some days when they are totally apart. Busy, tired, weak, angry, frustrated, sad, happy and frightened.
So, many emotions comes to mind. But, happiness comes from those good memories. Never straying for a single moment.
So, home I went. My luggage full. My Mom worried about my luggage being over weight. My Grandmother's earrings, crochet hooks and yarn in hand. Photos of a lifetime and blessings to those back home.
Now, home I be. That was in August. I still haven't unpacked my luggage. Hubby says, " Liz you need to unpack" I say yes, I do. But, part of me I guess is saving those memories. I hope I can do so real soon.
This morning the photos appeared again. Breathe, cough, cry, cough, sob, cough. I miss you Mom!
Memories flash once again before me.
Now, I ask self what am I going to do with all those photos?
Answer : Save them for another sick day like today.
Yes, that's me in the red cowgirl outfit. Ha, Ha!
Have a great weekend,

Hi Liz,
Sorry you've been under the weather. Your post brings sweet memories for me, too!
My grandparents, now passed on, kept a large suitcase (with the comb and brush set and cosmetic containers still in it!) as a storage place for their photos. It was a treat to get to bring the suitcase out and rummage through old photos and post cards.
I've requested to do this again on Thanksgiving. Like yours, some were of people we don't know, but they were friends of my grandparents. Some were taken by itinerant photographers who traveled rural texas with a pony on which to pose children. Others were taken with a Brownie box camera. I love them.
Thanks for sharing your suitcase with us!

When my Mother died and we cleaned out her house I took all the old vintage photos with me. Some of my family wanted to just throw them away because they didn't know who the people were, but I couldn't bear to think of all the history being gone. I bring my big box of photos down off the shelf a few times a year and go through them and try to imagine what their life was like.
You are so blessed to have memories and photographs that you can look at and remember, cherish, laugh, cry, and love. That is a darling photo of you in red. Hope you are on the mend.
xo,
Danielle
