Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow...

The beloved pin cushion. Isn't it a beauty? I purchased it for my friend, who makes dolls. To make a long story, short. I have to return it. Back to the thrift shop where I purchased it from. Darn! Before Christmas, I was in my glory to find such a gem. Weeks following my thrifting, I went back to the thrift shop to make a clothing  donation. The woman at the counter asked me if I didn't mind returning the pin cushion. I began to tell her it was a gift. When I asked why, I was told it wasn't for sale. Hum? What? It was a mistake made by one of the volunteers'. A NFS mistake. I didn't want to make a stink at my church's thrift shop but, come now. Good thing I didn't exchange gifts with my girl friend. Then, it would of been out of my hands. Right?
To find out, the pin cushion belonged to one of the volunteers'. She is a Senior citizen who was devoted to the thrift shop. Unfortunately, she doesn't volunteer anymore. She was so saddened that it was sold. Her daughter told her she would see if it could be returned. So, I'm going to wrap it up with a big bow and return it. I have to at this point. Wouldn't you do the same?
Yeah, news travels fast in a small town thrift shop. So much for being a regular! I was told they will refund me my money. At this point, I say keep the change.  Do you have any thrift shop tales? Please share. Till next time....
                                                                                                               Liz :)

Way to go Liz! Kind of like finding an Original Woody at a yard sale.

What a great story-I would have to return it too-no matter how sad. It belongs there. Kinda like the things other people get right in front of us. I think you'll be rewarded in some way-maybe something better is to come along. You've done the right thing-no matter how hard~!

Hi Liz,
Oh I feel for you, it is a beauty!! Of course you are doing the right thing, I am sure the lady will be thrilled to know kind people exsist :-) At least you got to enjoy it for a moment! But now you still have to shop for your friend, at least there are great deals out there this time of year!!

The pincushion reminds me of one that I made with my grandmother as a child....I still have it and use it! I know it's sad to return it, but I know that another one will come your way - things just happen like that!
Happy Pink Saturday!

Do I have tales! One I will relate involves visiting a favorite 'haunt' at the time owned by Barbara, who quickly became a friend as I visited frequently. She was one of 'my' people (Italian), and as such always had goodies to share with a cup of coffee. The little hole in the wall shop was meticulous; glasses washed sparkling clean, consigned furniture dusted and spruced up.It was a time when I had 3 little ones, who would miraculously fall asleep in their car seats (due to the fact we were all up at the crack of dawn and half the day had already gone by at 11 am) and I could park right in front of the large windows, lock the car, and she would keep an eye on them as I shopped in PEACE. (No one reported me!) So this particular time I looked and looked, to no avail, until I came across a little 3"x4" needlepoint hanging by her cash register. "I LOST MY THINK" it endear-inly said. Of all the stuff in there, it 'spoke' to me. But, alas, it spoke to Barbara as well (who was significantly older than me!), and it was NFS. So, I feel your pain with this little pin cushion! PS I 'Love' your 1 January post about the notes in the box/jar....so inspiriing, thank you!

Happy Pink Saturday Maria Sweetie...
Oh what a beautiful share this one is. I love it. That pincushion is so precious. I can see why the dear one loves it so. Yes in this instance, I too would have to return it. But my question is, if it was SO lovingly thought of, what was it doing there in the first place. I mean a volunteer would leave something as precious as this there for display?

Well sweetie, you are doing the right thing in returning it, but it doesn't make it any easier does it?

A beautiful share from a beautiful heart of gold. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

How happy that lady will be is going to make it all worth while. I think she does need to bring it on home so someone else doesn't buy it. Have a great weekend.

Yes, I would do the same, bless her heart and yours, she will be so thrilled and reminded that there are wonderful people still in this world. I would put a small note on it, letting her know how much you love it and that your glad to return it to her, because you know what a special piece it is.
You will be blessed because of doing the right thing.
Happy PS
