estate sale treasure::

He was a craftsman that's all I knew of him. I wished I had learned more about this man and what drew him to his handiwork. His Daughter gave me a tour of the three bedroom house. Very retro decor with hints of farmhouse, an eclectic mix. She cried as she grieved the loss of her Dad. It touched me so all I could do was console this poor Woman, as I stood in one of the bedrooms with flowered wallpaper. We talked about pricing as I leaned over to grab a wooden oak box. She told me her Father made it and he enjoyed woodworking. I then told her she needed to keep it in his memory as she began to point out all the items he had made. "No, I have one"she exclaimed. "Whatever doesn't sell is going to auction!" I stopped and thought about her words. At this time, my husband was glancing at tools and gadgets in the shed. I made my purchase and went on my way.. It was like a movie trailer to me. It happened so fast I wanted to make a U turn and start from the very beginning the introduction. Ask her if she was ok and if she needed anything but, I didn't.What do you say to someone who is faced with loss of a loved one besides,"I'm sorry." I wanted to know his name, how many children he had and his wife's name. It made me wonder about so many things in life especially our legacy. Not to mention the stuff we collect and the memories we save for years. It dawned on me this three bedroom house was going to be sold along with it's contents to strangers. His son-in-law complained to my husband while there,"I told them not to buy this house." I wonder about their lives and hope they shared many happy times there. I can only hope that the family isn't burdened with it all and have help from loved ones. So many unanswered questions and thoughts filtering in my brain. My box sits on my dresser now for safekeeping. Lesson learned here..next time I'm definitely going to get a name.

neutral finds::

      Pairing up some neutral finds from this past weekend: ironstone, a vintage egg cup and bits of lace. I couldn't resist the fresh garlic bulbs from the farmer's market too.
    Does your summer palate of finds look like this? Or does it have hints of color throughout? The highlight of this past weekend was a visit to an estate sale overlooking the Hudson river. I could move right in this one bedroom summer cottage with wooden beams and leaded glass windows. Kept in the family for over 100 years.. now, it's history and keepsakes are up for sale. I passed up on a few things like vintage wicker, chairs, pottery, books, tools and bric-a- brac.. you know the typical stuff. oh, how I wanted the original hoosier cabinet from the kitchen-NFS
    I'm hoping to go back to the estate soon to capture some snap shots of this vintage beauty for you before it goes on the market for sale. To be continued...
   By the way, have a great week! Liz

Here's what I brought home: old WW2 trunk, lace, dice, wooden blocks, a pair of red scissors, art, bottles, cotton mattress covers, books and a very sweet child's rocking chair.
                                     Did you hit any sales this weekend?
                                      Getting ready for my little shop :)

Mail From A Cottage and Estate Sale::

                         Ana's handmade heart came in the mail today. Thank you Ana, it's beautiful. I will cherish it always! Check out her sweet blog at, A Petite Cottage.
                         While, the mail arrived this morning. My friend aka: Thelma (that's another story) and me attended a mega estate sale. Oh, yes another craigslist ad. This time the estate sale was in my neighborhood. How lucky was that.

    Thelma had a handful of items. As for myself, I did great too. Here's my list of finds: pair of shabby tole hanging lights( above) shiny brite ornaments, cream ware, spools of thread, vintage scissors, mirror, atlas mason jar, silverware, vintage milk bottle, angel food pan, tin and a vintage Xmas bell.
      The Thelma and Louise duo had a great time. Best of all, it was a stone throw away. We love that :)
      The shabby lighting fixtures will be going in my Etsy shop soon. Not sure on pricing yet. Why am I drawn to pink lately? Who knows.
       I hope you are having a fun weekend. Now, I need to catch up on things around here.
                                                             Be back in a few days :)
                                                                        xxx Liz

Estate Sale On A Farm

A phone call yesterday morning from my girlfriend and it was off to an estate sale.Yes, that's all it takes.I just hear those words, "Estate Sale" I'm in my car! The site for the sale was on a farm. Nestled all the way off the road on farmland surrounded by aged barns and apple trees. So sweet and country like. Everything inside the home was old. I wish we had arrived a week ago but, we still found some finds anyway.If you collected books you were in for a treat. I purchased an old picture and Xmas ornaments.I was thinking of hanging the portrait in the office? Hm? OK, enjoy the pics. Laundry Land is calling me. Have a awesome week ahead.
Hugs, Liz

PS. The lighting is terrible this am. I'll post pics of my finds at a later date! Also, a Big thanks to Beverly for hosting Pink Saturday yesterday. It was nice to meet new Bloggers!
